Project Summary
Sharm El-Naga Hotel & Lodge is a landmark 800-key coastal resort located on one of the Red Sea’s last remaining onshore reef-access sites. Designed by Zaro Architects, the project sets a new benchmark in regenerative tourism — balancing low-density luxury, contextual architecture, and environmental resilience.
The design honors the site’s marine biodiversity, reef drop-offs, and desert hydrology, preserving critical ecological systems while curating a refined guest experience. The resort unfolds across a 215,000 sqm site with just 20% coverage, allowing nature to lead and architecture to follow.
One of the defining features of the project is its integration of the natural مخر السيل (stormwater channel) — a seasonal water flow corridor traditionally diverted or buried in coastal developments. Here, it is preserved and elevated as a design driver: a central landscape axis bridged by a floating spine, allowing water to pass freely through the site without disruption. The bridge becomes both a sustainable solution and an iconic spatial element — a moment of reflection, transition, and openness.
Throughout the masterplan, a material language of restraint — sand-toned render, coral stone, rammed earth, and woven reed — anchors the buildings to place. Structures are low-slung and fragmented, creating village-like clusters that are climatically tuned and human-scaled, with natural shading, ventilation, and seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
The luxury of Sharm El-Naga lies not in excess, but in deliberate subtraction: peace instead of noise, authenticity instead of replication, ecology instead of artificiality. The result is a hospitality experience where diving, wellness, family life, and solitude coexist in perfect balance — shaped by wind, water, and time.
