COAST OF SEVEN CONTINENTS

Commissioned by a UAE-based developer with a strong belief in the potential of West Africa, this project envisions Varela, Guinea Bissau, as a global hub for sustainable tourism, business, and diplomacy. With its pristine coastline, rich biodiversity, and cultural depth, the site offers an opportunity to create a landmark destination for the African continent, while maintaining ecological balance and resilience. The development, titled the “Coast of Seven Continents,” combines a series of resorts, a business park, and cultural facilities, establishing a world-class hub that embraces both local communities and international visitors.

Concept Narrative

Situated near the Senegalese border, Varela is a coastal jewel with untapped potential. The UAE-based developer’s vision was to transform this unique setting into a continental meeting point, blending sustainable tourism with opportunities for African nations to collaborate in business, trade, and diplomacy.

The master plan is structured around the symbolism of the seven continents, each represented through a distinct resort with unique architectural character and guest experiences. These resorts are supported by a business park and mixed-use areas that provide economic and diplomatic functions, extending the project’s impact beyond tourism into governance and commerce.

A core driver of the concept is sustainability. The plan carefully respects protected coastal zones, integrates water collection systems, and applies large coastal setbacks to mitigate erosion and climate risks. Agricultural lands and fisheries are preserved and enhanced, ensuring the project works in synergy with local livelihoods.

Ultimately, the Coast of Seven Continents positions Guinea Bissau as both a global destination and a regional hub—a place where culture, commerce, and ecological stewardship come together under one vision.
